Over the next few weeks the site will be gradually updated, with more workshop apron content, since that occupies most of my workshop time currently. There is also now apron exclusive branding (Gawler Leather Works). This keeps the Wallis Knives branding for knives and knife sheaths.

Time
Once again time has gotten away from me and the site has fallen behind. Aprons have been made, knives have been made. The aprons now come in X style straps as well as Y, with all hand stitched pockets. Book Covers Book covers available for both A4 and A5 sketch books or note books with different types of closures One for the four-legged Dog collars are now available as custom order items, made from veg tan, with solid buckles and rings for clipping leads onto. Passport Covers Passport covers also added to the range, with room for two cards and currency. Laser etched details.
Since the last blog post there has been a fair bit of activity. More sheaths made, a straight razor in progress and a knife roll These pendants were crafted from Damascus steel forged at Seppeltsfield in the Barossa valley. Each one has a unique shape and pattern, and is complimented with European round leather cord.
There seems to be a rush of orders on kitchen knives lately. This one shows the progress of a small chef knife. this photo shows the forced patina added for corrosion protection. This photo shows the close up detail of the patina.
This one is a more conventional western style straight razor. The scales are to be made from the timber behind it.
Much going on Since my last blog post there has been a lot going on. Finishing knives for people and doing a lot of leatherwork. Straight Razor This was one of the prototype razors I made from a piece of Damascus steel, produced in the Gardner Knives workshop at Seppeltsfield. Made from a billet that started out as 19 layers of 1084 and 15N20 steel. This was the proof of concept, not only for the shaping, but also the heat treatment. Picture was provided by the new owner (and honer) of the razor. Cleaver and Santoku Last year I was approached to make a paired cleaver and santoku. The customer provided the timber scales, and a sketch to make the santoku from. The hammer texturing was a requirement, as was the mosaic pins and curved brass bolsters. The cleaver was to feature the same handle, but instead of hammer texture, was given a forced patina, to keep with the forged theme. Blacksmith Apron This is one of the Blacksmith aprons i've been working on. This is the second one from veg tanned leather, and features carving and tooling on the waist strap and main body. The rivet pouch was wet moulded using a two-piece wooden mould, and is copper riveted together. The hammer loop was constructed to prevent misplacement of the hammer when working with others. More Blacksmith Aprons This is the style of the run-of-the-mill aprons I've been making. Furnished from German nubuck leather and featuring rivet reinforced pocket corners and brass mounting points for straps. These aprons are made according to customer height and also feature pocket covers to prevent dust ingress. The pocket covers can also be tucked into the pockets when they aren't required. |
